This is a Car PC, or a Carputer for my Dodge Ram truck, hince the name RamPC.
The idea is/was to fit the whole unit into the space for the radio with the touch screen that would slide into the cup holder bay.
I created a instructable on how i got the screen into the cub holder Instructables Link but that did not work as well as i planned so i just attached it to the outside of the cup holder so that the screen can be removed.
Here is a list of stuff that is completed on this project:
- Installed Touch Screen
- Displays information from the cars OBD port like: MPH,RPM,Gas,Throttle, ect
- GPS Navigation using Google Maps and a USB GPS (Microsoft)
- Plays music and shows album covers using WinAmp and SideAmp
- Plays videos using VLV
- Connects and displays outlook items
- Has a web browser
Here are some images of the software:

Also here is a video of it not connected to the truck:
Here it is running in the truck:
Here is the touch screen installed in to the truck.

Connected to a Microsoft Zune:

Instructables Link: Installing a Touch Screen
Well the idea is that it run on a computer you have in your car. You have it connected to the OBD and GPS and even some wireless internet. Its pretty self explanatory once its up and running, the trick is to get it all to play nice, but that is what the settings are for.
- Well how to install the LCD screen can be found here: Instructables Link
- To get this to work you need at WinAmp installed with either my SideAmp software, or with this ActiveAmp plug in: http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/143299
- Once you have that you can just run the exe, i just put all the stuff in a zip file since this is just for fun and theres not much to hide.
- Now to use the OBD stuff. You need to have a USB OBD cable plugged in, you then need to go to settings and set up the ComPort and BaudRate and then start scan.
- To use the GPS you need to use a USB GPS device and set that up in the Navigation secion, to use google maps you need to be online.
- To play music you MUST have WinAmp which you need to run the exe at all actually.
- To set the background for the Music Tab go to settings and select a Album Background folder
What it does is scans the folder and any folder in it(only one folder deep though) for Folder.jpg images and creates a background
It works just like my SideAmp program so if you have problems with it displaying album covers look over there - To play videos you need VLC to be installed, i think its set to find avi, but it can play anything VLC can
- Outlook is not turned on so you cant use it anyways
- To use the web browser you need to be connected to the internet.
- This program comes with NO GUARANTEE for it to work, it was created for my Dodge Ram, but should work on a lot of cars
